Eye and vision exams are important for the young and young-at-heart.

Spencer Garlick – Doctor of Optometry is pleased to serve the Gig Harbor community at Harbor Optical.

Dr. Garlick is originally from Utah but fell in love with the Northwest while attending optometry school in Oregon. After completing undergraduate studies at Brigham Young University with a degree in Italian, he earned his Doctor of Optometry from the distinguished College of Optometry at Pacific University. As part of his clinical training he completed rotations in pediatric optometry, contact lenses, ocular disease, and low vision at locations such as Washington School for the Blind, Salt Lake VA Hospital, and David Grant USAF Medical Center. While studying at Pacific University, he also worked as a clinical interpreter for Spanish speaking patients at The Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center.

Providing the best possible care for his patients is the goal that Dr. Garlick hopes to achieve. His motto is ‘Always do what is best for the patient’. He enjoys meeting with and helping people from a variety of ages and walks of life. His objective is to help them experience the world around them with the best possible ocular health and sight. He also enjoys using the latest technologies to care for his patients in the best possible way.

In addition to seeing patients to monitor and improve vision and general ocular health, Dr. Garlick is specialized in treating patients with low vision. He trained under low-vision specialist Dr. Erick Hartman for five years, and he is now one of the few optometrists in the Greater Seattle area who is qualified to treat patients with low vision.

As an active member of the American Optometric Association and the Optometric Physicians of Washington, Dr. Garlick has served as the president of The Pierce County Optometric Society.  He has also volunteered in a variety of community outreach programs such as Special Olympics, and Amen Tacoma.

In his spare time, he enjoys traveling, cooking, sports, anything Italian, spending time outdoors, and especially spending time with his family. He and his wife, Anna, are the proud parents of three children.
